This course is for anyone who relies upon professional writing in the workplace for their current job or the job to which they aspire. In this course, you will analyze and practice methods for writing effectively for a variety of audiences and across an array of platforms. You will also work to enhance your accuracy with grammar, punctuation, and word usage, and to develop effective techniques for revising, proofreading, and editing professional documents. Topics will include: audience and genre analysis, text design and incorporating effective visuals, revising and editing techniques, composing positive and negative messages, proposal and report writing, and crafting product descriptions, technical summaries, and press releases.
By dedicating five hours per week in this four-week online course, students enrolled in Montclair State University’s newly developed short-duration program in Professional Writing will learn the fundamental techniques that employers are looking for in a variety of internal and customer facing job roles in marketing, distribution, customer service, public relations, management, and human resources.
